To the President of the Republic of Moldova Igor Dodon
Here, the undersigned persons, members of the civil society of the Rebublic of Moldova,
Express our deep disagreement with the statement made by the President Igor Dodon on 25 February, 2018, who in a public post on one of the social network, explicitly positioned himself against tolerance, liberalism and gender equality.
We would like to remind you that the institution of the Presidency has the fundamental role of respecting the Constitution of the RM, in which its clearly and unconditionally exposed the democratic and multi-ethnic state of the Republic of Moldova with the following supreme values:
"the rule of law, the dignity of human, his rights and freedoms, the free development of the human personality, justice and political pluralism. "
Further, article 16 of the Constitution provides: (1) Respect for and protection of the person constitutes a primary duty of the state; (2) All citizens of the Republic of Moldova shall be equal before the law and the public authorities, irrespective of their race, nationality, ethnic origin, language, religion, sex, opinion, political affiliation, wealth or social origin.
Trough the oath of investment in office the President of the Republic of Moldova undertakes to observes and promote these values.
We therefore regard the State Secretary statement of 25 February as being incontestably contradictory to the supreme constitutional values and thus unacceptable in the context of the commitments of the countrys high-level public authorities towards their mission to build a democratic state where personal freedoms and citizens rights, including freedom of religion, gender equality, tolerance towards others, are guaranteed and respected.
The signatories of this open letter have taken note of the subsequent change of the public posting. No matter who manages the Presidents page, the full responsibility is on the owner of the page. In order to
To restore public confidence in the constitutional role of the Presidency as the guarantor of the democratic rights and freedoms of all citizens without exception, we call for the personal reaction of the President as the guarantor of the democratic rights and freedoms of all citizens without exception, we call for the personal reaction of the President of the country to those declared, which essentially constitutes a departure from constitutional norms.
The platform for Gender Equality is a voluntary union of 28 individuals and legal entities – an active and unitary voice for promotinf gender equality in Moldova, which is also the UN Sustainable Development Goal no 5.
